Clan life is central to Tyrean’s of any age or class, the clan is the place in which they spend most of their lives. Clans also provide the backbone of the Tyrean administrative system, providing boats and warriors for any baelin or defence of the homeland whilst also helping to run the realm. Within the city of Tyris there are numerous clan halls of well established clans, many of which claim they can trace their lineage back to the days of Bodvar himself. Details of some of these clans shall follow this post including a history of each clan and the underlying purpose of it.

If you should wish to create a clan message me for further information, please do not post any clan information in this thread without prior consent from a member of staff.

CLAN TIDDJÄGERN

Brief history

Out of the earliest mists of the Tyrean history the clan Tiddjägern has made itself known all over Tyris. In the long lost time of legends, when Bodvar the Brave tried to unite the Tyreans under his rule, the Tidehunters were the first to accept his vision and lend their strength to his cause. As Bodvar’s son, Njord, began his work on the Tyrean keep, they sent their best stonemasons and woodworkers to work on the keep, and their handiwork can still be seen today. When Swain Njordson set sail to explore the unknown waters of the world, he did so on a ship crafted by the skilled shipwrights of Tiddjägern and half his crew was comprised from members of the clan. They fought and died with Olaf Gunnarson on foreign shores and none dares to say that they did not sell their lives dearly, for many a foe fell under their blades. And while few nowdays remember how the legendary Ulrik looked like, many remember that it was the Tidehunters who rallied to his side to fight the Mhordul threat with a frenzy that only old Ulrik could surpass.

Clan traits

The Tidehunters are well known amongst the Tyreans as the most outgoing of their people, which is a natural consequence of their trade oriented life. They are skilled seafarers, travelling across all over the world, but where they really excel in is their craft, bits of which has been known to be found as far as the jungles of Azhur, or the scorching deserts of Khemet.

They also claim to be the best shipwright in Tyris, which they constantly enforce by constructing better and better ships for all purposes, from transport to Baelin raiding.

One very peculiar trait that all the male members of the clan family share are their unusually long beards (most ladies would claim that their true length lies elsewhere, but let’s leave it at that).

Notable Characters

Kadlin Jorunnson Led the Tiddjägern in Bodvar’s times and was known for his surpassing diplomatic skills which he amply used to further Bodvar’s cause.

Hrefna Gudrundottir Undisputedly the best stonemason and architect the clan has ever produced, Hrefna played a crucial role in the Keep’s construction.

Gerrid Bjorgson Was Swain Njordson’s first mate when they sailed out to explore the outer seas and is credited as the founder of the Tidehunter’s sailing tradition.

Clan Vangheim

Brief History

Vangheim was amongst the last of the large Tyrean clans to unite under the banner of Bodvar in his attempt to unite the people of Tyris. The Vangheim have provided many of Tyris’ finest warriors and craftsmen, a number even reaching the prestigious ranks of the Jarlsgaard. Ragnar Rikardson was amongst the Jarlsgaard who fell in battle beside their Koen, Olaf Gunnarson, an event which the Vangheim still honour to this day. Despite this military prestige which the clan so highly values, the Vangheim are primarily explorers and diplomats whose scouting and negotiating abilities have often been called upon by the Tyrean Army and even the Jarl himself. The Vangheim clan once numbered in the dozens, with their retainers being considered to be an army by themselves, however their fate would take a disastrous turn during the Janos Wars, which saw the mighty Tyrean nation brought to its knees. The aftermath of the final battle saw the Vhalurian armed forces all but crushed was a costly one for Vangheim. Upon returning to Tyris, only five members of the clan survived. The leadership of the Vangheim clan since the Janos Wars have passed from father to son as tradition dictates, but little has been done to rebuild the rank and prestige of the clan. In recent years, however, a new direction has been taken to promote and re-establish the clan as one of the largest and most powerful in Tyris and to open interracial trade and negotiations with other kingdoms.

Clan Traits

Due to the nature of Vangheim’s exploration, most of the clan opt lighter, more flexible armours to grant them the necessary mobility for their scouting and other services they may render the Army. The Vangheim are rarely seen in the front lines of a Tyrean advance but prefer to remain on the periphery, specializing in guerrilla warfare and covert operations. This has led many of them to remain handsome and strapping long into their elderly years, where other Tyreans would lose their faces behind layers of scars and blemishes.

While members of the Jaarlsgaard, the Vangheim warriors are often considered able and useful advisers when dealing with treaty negotiations. This may be in part due to the clan's focus on educating their young ones in academic areas alongside the traditional combat and strategy lessons. Many of them are able to read both Tyrean and Common, a feat that is not shared by most of their kin.

The Vangheim clan once provided some of Tyris’ finest wares but after the decimation of the Janus Wars only a tradition of blacksmithing remained in the immediate family. Now that the clan has a focus on trade and rebuilding it is safe to assume that they will expand beyond blacksmithy to filling the ranks of the army and being a part of Tyris' trade with the outside world.

Notable Characters

Ludvig Vangson: the Bjorn who both founded the Vangheim clan but also made the widely contested decision to align Vangheim behind Bodvar’s cause.

Ragnar Rikardson: the future Bjorn of the Vangheim clan who fell in battle causing the clans leadership to transfer to his cousin Erland Kellson.

Tarn Ranulfson: the Bjorn of the Vangheim Clan who led them into battle against the Vhalurians. This decimated the clan but led to the freedom of Tyris.
