The Kaphiri

The greatest honour a Khemetar warrior may receive is to become part of the Kaphiri, the very elite of their fighting men and guards to the Neferan. It is rumoured that the Kaphiri, however, were created during a time of great distress, thousands of years ago, when most of the other races did not even exist as consolidated nations. In those days, the legend goes, the Kaphiri were comprised of brave men who stood up against a deranged Neferan who would, very likely, have brought their civilization to a premature end. Since then, though, these warriors became their sovereign’s most trusted men, never leaving his side, except when assigned by him to carry out covert operations in his name.

The Kaphiri are personally selected by The Throne himself, even though it is somewhat common for the Grand Vizier and the Vashnir to make suggestions to the Neferan, since they are in closer contact with the rest of the population. Once chosen, a candidate must then undergo a strict training directed by the leader of the Kaphiri. The exact tasks and routines of this training are a total mystery to the general populace, since everything is carried out in complete secrecy, so as to not allow any of the nation’s enemies to learn their techniques or, even moreso, any potential flaws in their methods.

Although there is no real limitation to the kind of fighting men that are chosen to become Kaphiri, they are commonly Weapon Specialists who forfeit the use of armour in order to maintain a complete freedom of movement and amazing speed.

A Kaphiri is easily recognized by the exceedingly sharp and well crafted Khopesh that he receives upon the end of his training. This weapon is said to cut through a man’s flesh as if it were made of butter. This fact, along with the unmatched fighting prowess these men have, make them one of the most feared opponents in all of Khaeros.
