The Jarlsgaard

The Jarlsgaard is the finest ship’s crew of all Tyris. They man the flagship of the Tyrean fleet and are the first to disembark and charge into battle. Led by the Jarl himself, right hand of the Koen, the Jarlsgaard is comprised of the most trustworthy men who have also established themselves as the fiercest warriors Tyris has to offer.

The Jarl oversees all comings and goings, destinations, and missions of the ship, and speaks with full authority. His decisions are at the core of the organization. Since the ship is his mode of transportation worldwide, he is often on it and owns the ship. When a new Jarl is chosen by the Koen, the new Jarl must provide a ship, as the old one is burned with the body of his predecessor aboard.

The Captain is the master of the ship, being in charge of all sailing. When the warriors disembark, he must protect the ship from would-be thieves, and when sailing, he is the Jarl’s personal bodyguard. He must be well-learned in navigation and the use of the Tyrean Sword. Oftentimes he will carry a round shield and short spear like his fellow crewmates.

Usually, the Captain will take with him five Sea Guards to serve aboard the ship as the honour guard of the Jarl. They are chosen for their excellence, and clan ties are irrelevant to the selection process. They carry war axes, spears and round shields, all suited for the Baelin. At least one of the warriors must provide a bow and arrows.

One or more Master Crafters may also be a part of the crew. They travel with the Jarl to other countries to trade and showcase their art. In addition, they are responsible for the upkeep of all crew equipment and the ship’s repairs, if needed. It is required of the crafters who serve aboard the Jarlsgaard ship to provide each a bow and arrow. They must learn to defend their Jarl with the Sea Guards, for when the times require it.
